The Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate, commonly known as Nirmala sisters, is an exclusively women missionary congregation, founded by Mother Giuseppina Dones, Mother Igilda Rodolfi. Blessed Paolo Manna, PIME, is the inspirer and Msgr. Lorenzo Maria Balconi, PIME, is the Co-founder.

On 8th December 1936, in Milan (Italy), Sr. Giuseppina Dones and Sr. Giuseppina Rodolfi began the new congregation in the church with an act of consecration to the Immaculate Virgin. It was a moment of poverty and trust, and at the same time it was also the end of a long, twenty-two years of painful search of the will of God for the new Congregation. The charism of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate is the living passion to proclaim God’s Kingdom to all peoples.  The desire that the entire humanity might share in the fullness of life of the Kingdom, makes us missionaries: ad gentes – proclamation of the Gospel, ad extra – going out of our Country and Culture and ad vitam – placing ourselves at the service of God’s Kingdom.
